RENT tickets

we just got back from lunch.. after we ate, we bought tickets for the play RENT!

the play is a musical that celebrates the community of young artists in new york as they struggle with their soaring hopes and tough realities in the world.. (that much i know since no one here, no one that i know, has watched it yet..)

the female lead is played by the hong kong singer-actress karen mok (if i am not mistaken, she's one of the actresses in 'so close'? or not..).. each ticket costs $132.. whew! i do hope it's worth it.. =p

facts on camels

last sunday.. we went to check the singapore expo hoping to find some good buys.. as my pangga and i already have laptops.. we didnt find anything else.. =( we were checking out the mp3 players (coz my dad wants one) but i can buy the same thing at a lower price in the mall.. so we just opted to cut our shopping trip short and go home.. *sigh*

but i did learn something new from my snapple apple drink.. =p there's a fact noted on the bottle cap..

A CAMEL HAS THREE EYELIDS. i got curious so i did some casual reading.. and here's what i found out..

--> if sand gets into a camel's eye, it uses its third eyelid to get it out.. the picture looks kinda freaky huh.. it's like a windshield wiper on a car! =D

the eyelid moves from side to side to get the sand out. =) this eyelid is very thin, so the camel can see through it.. and camels often close their third eyelids while walking during sandstorms

found out one more thing..
--> to keep sand from blowing in their noses, camels can shut their nostrils.. (wish i can do that while swimming.. hehehe..)

TGIF! and we wanted to feel that it really was a friday night.. so our officemate arranged for us to have dinner somewhere near raffles city.. somewhere my pangga and i haven't visited yet..

when we asked them what the place looked like.. their description was 'parang greenbelt' =)

it was one of the gimik places here in SG.. and true enough there were a lot of restaurants.. some of which are great just for hanging out.. with their comfy, cozy ambiance..

we had dinner at a thai/japanese restaurant.. great food.. great company.. great night! =)
we took a couple of pictures while walking around.. we were suppose to take a picture by the merlion.. but it was quite a long walk from where we are and one of our friends is pregnant.. so we're reserving it for next week.. =)
we decided to have desserts at windows.. the place was soooo cozy, i could stay there all night! *sigh* they were playing jazz on the background.. some cross over classics and songs that most likely would be sung by michael buble..

im looking forward to next friday..

25 things

1. i hate pink.. i just do.. and my mom knows that.. hehehe. =D she would often tease me that she would buy me something pink.. =S

2. love dogs.. be they real or not.. we use to have 5 to 7 dogs at one time.. and we treat them as humans, in the sense that.. we talk to them in the same way we talk to other people.. =) i have this feeling that they understand at times..

3. i have a collection of dog figurines, stuff toys, books.. hmmm.. let's see.. i also have a playing card..

4. i was once a gym addict.. hahaha! i would go to the gym at lunch time to workout when i know that ill be quite busy at night.. and i even go to Makati on the weekends just to burn calories..

5. i cant swim.. was too scared to learn when i was a kid.. i would wrap myself on my dad's leg to prevent my uncle from throwing me on the pool.. =p

6. during my elementary days.. (i think even early high school), i have a collection of stationaries.. my friends and i would trade or we would play for them.. the game where each of us opens a book and the one with the highest page number (last number) gets the pool of stationaries.. hehehe.. =p

7. i almost (note, almost) hit a couple of guys when i was in 2nd grade because they were bullying my bro..

8. kinda war freak, i punched someone when i was in 6th grade..

9. i was one of the tallest girls in class when i was in elementary.. =p yes, i was! =p

10. i cant drive 'well'.. =p i do know how to start a car and change gears.. however, im pretty sure i might hit something or worse someone while driving.. =( during my first year in college, i hit the guardhouse in our village with our car (the guard is still inside.. and was furious!) =p

11. my mom would have my hair curled every couple of months when i was too young to care..

12. like most kids.. i earn money by removing white hairs from my dad or mom's head..

13. i had these big owl-like eyes when i was, i think, below 10 years of age

14 . whenever i get the chance to be a flower girl, my dad needs to walk with me down the aisle.. they said i wouldnt move unless my dad is there.. =p *daddy's girl*

15. my mom said that i was very (very, very, very) inquisitive as a child.. my 'whys' seem to drive adults nuts.. =p

16. i had an open heart surgery 2 years ago.. coz i was literally broken hearted.. =p

17. i love indoor wall climbing (but at the same time, im afraid of heights.. particularly, of escalators that never seems to reach the top)

18. i dream of visiting as many countries as i can

19. i once had a student driver's license (which is still somewhere at home) where my recorded height is 5'11".. woohoo! =D

20. love listening to music.. my pangga and i always have our mp3 with us whereever we go.. =)

21. i miss our church in the province (now covered in lahar).. i find peace and solitude by just staying inside.. helping out with whatever i can.. or simply staying on the park at the back of the church..

22. i love the ourdoors.. and dream of going on a real camping trip sometime..

23. i didnt have to attend CAT in high school (but sometimes i wish i did).. especially when i hear the stories of my friends.. while they were marching on the grounds we were studying for interschool competitions.. yipee? =S

24. i would love to swim with dolphins! sa subic yata pwede magswim with dolphins.. =D or was it whales?!?

25. i never liked our computer subjects in high school.. and my pakner knows that ;) and yet somehow i ended up taking MIS and working for IT companies.. irony.. =S

the shuttle on a rainy day

we took the mrt this morning not only because we were running late but also because it was raining.. there are shuttles right outside the mrt station that would take us to our office.. around 5 to 10 minutes ride..

it so happened that the shuttle we rode was one of the finer buses they have.. very huge, comfortable seats (i can seat two of me in one), great leg room (not that i need much =p) and foot rest (not that i can reach it).. it was like the first class seats on a plane..

when we got to our stop.. my pangga was still enjoying himself.. resting on his 'lazy boy'.. that we ended up letting all the passengers leave before we did..

on our way down the bus.. my pangga said that we should have one like it.. and my first thought was.. 'huh? ilang anak ba gusto mo?'

HP6 and what my pangga has to say

my pangga tried to start a blog of his own.. just to get a feel of why i was into it.. he had i think 3 posts and one of them is this..

i just thought i'll place it here para may kakwentuhan kami.. hahaha.. and si lei.. =)

this is about HP6 by the way.. so if you havent read the book yet.. might as well STOP here.. =D

The only book I was able to bring was my latest one, HP6. So that's what I read over and over again. I think I'm on my 5th or 6th pass already. My pangga asks me why I always re-read the thing and not just get another book from my sister's shelf. What can I say? I like the thing, hence my url and title. And I'm trying to find some proof to support or discredit my theory on why things happened and what probably would happen on the HP7. So far, my theory is holding out. My theory is this: Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him. Want proof?

Fact # 1, Hagrid overheard Dumbledore and Snape arguing in the forest - I suspect this is where Dumbledore asked Snape.

Fact # 2, Dumbledore injured his arm and Snape was the only one he approached to cure it. Snape is the only one along with Dumbledore who knows his true condition. Dumbledore might already be dying and they can't do a thing to stop it, so why not use it in their advantage?

Fact # 3, the death eaters are suspecting snape's loyalty. Killing Dumbledore would defenitely help them convince that he is on their side which brings back Dumbledore to creating "the plan".

Fact # 4, Dumbledore knows Draco's task and he did not even attempt to accost or comfront Draco since he knows Draco's predicament. This might be another possible good reason to sacrifice his life, to save Draco and his family.

Fact # 5, Dumbledore keeps asking Harry to look for Snape when they get back, why? Possibly to act on "the plan"

tocino and longanisa ala moi

my pangga and i spent this weekend together doing household chores.. cleaning, fixing stuffs and cooking =)

i made longanisa and tocino yesterday.. i prepared them at noon and cooked some of the longanisa for dinner.. according to my food critic.. hehehe.. it was ok! mamam daw! hahaha! =p but i find it a wee-bit salty.. i told him that i'll lessen the salt next time.. but he said he likes it as it is.. ;)

i didnt cook the tocino as it needs to cure first.. but we did eat it for lunch today.. hehehe.. and success na naman daw.. hahaha! good thing i remember how to cook it still.. i made some tocino when i was assigned in chicago last.. let's see.. when was that again.. uhmmm.. 2003.. =)

i love seeing my pangga with a good appetite.. especially if im the one who prepared the food.. =D

harry potter and the goblet of fire

harry potter and the goblet of fire. the movie was, like they all said, the best of the four. some of our officemates even said that it's no longer just for kids..

here are some of our comments during and after seeing the movie..- like lei, i agree that the quidditch world cup could have been a bit longer.. we were really amazed by how different the effects were and a few seconds later.. it's over =S

- dumbledore was too rough and aggressive.. i dont remember him having that kind of character especially when it comes to harry.. they changed his character..

after the goblet spitted the names of the champions they were asked to go to a room where they waited for the teachers and the members of the committee for the triwizard tournament.. as soon as dumbledore entered the room, he run proceeded towards harry, holding him on the shoulders with such force that wasnt very dumbledore-like..

i still like the first dumbledore better, way better =p

- erlyn said victor krum is sort of a hunk in the movie.. but i dont remember anything like that from the book.. he was suppose to be this frail looking guy.. well, i guess they pictured him differently..

- a lot of the sub stories in the book were not in the movie.. though i've already expected that.. seeing that the other three movies were like that as well.. i wont be mentioning mentiong which ones just in case you havent seen the movie yet.. =) uhmm.. to name just a few.. hehehe.. for starters.. winky was not with barty crouch jr., ludo bagman, dobby, rita skeeters animagus, sirius black..

- and isnt harry suppose to learn how to fight the cruciatus curse..

- the dialogues were mostly between the main characters.. harry, hermione, ron, dumbledore and mad-eye moody.. victor krum hardly said anything.. even on the last part of the movie.. he merely whispered to hermione to write to him during the summers.. and fleur's dialogue during the tournament seemed rushed..

- the effect of fleur towards guys (being part veela) was not shown.. well, i just thought that i could have seen more drooling from ron.. hahaha! seeing that she'll be back in the half blood prince =) *ooopps*

- if i havent read the book, im not sure i would appreciate the movie as much.. i cant explain it.. but it's like so much has been removed and/or altered that it's kinda hard to really get into the story..

- the girls were beautiful during the yule ball.. especially hermione.. my pangga kept on smiling whenever she was focused.. =S

- ron and the twins were really funny

but still the movie is still worth watching.. the book in animation! =D visually exciting!

promoting mandarin

on the news last night.. a program was held to promote mandarin here in singapore.. from what i understood.. they are gearing towards teaching the main chinese language because there are a lot of dialects being used.. well, actually i know only of mandarin and fukien.. but they said there are others..

they were interviewing people on how mandarin have helped them or how not knowing have put them in an embarrasing situation..

there was this guy who was telling his story on the plane.. the stewardess was speaking to him in mandarin, distributing food.. and with what little chinese he knew.. he responded with something that the stewardess clearly didnt understand.. and then.. this was what's funny about the story.. the stewardess placed a sticker on the guy's chest saying 'english spoken only'..

well i wasnt bothered so much by the grammar.. imagine being tagged liked that! =S hey, i still speak the universal language.. so no stickers for me! =p

meeting my classmates

today was my second swimming lesson.. i finally got to meet my classmates.. such a nice feeling to know that there are other people in level one.. =D names, names.. let's see.. there's uma, samit, mike, isabela and my officemate.. loi.. =)

we're now learning about how to breath every couple of seconds without our kickboard.. we've to swim for three seconds then do this circular motion with our hands and arm to push ourselves out of the water to breath..

twas hard! hahaha! i keep on sinking.. =( i was able to put my head up only on the first three counts.. then i sink.. it's like the same force that pushed me up is pushing me down.. huhuhu.. ='(

o well.. that's what practices are for! =D

puzzle one - done!

just wanted to share that we finished one of the four jigsaw puzzles we bought.. my pangga just wouldnt go to sleep without seeing the puzzle all done.. so with heavy, red eyes and cramped legs (from sitting on the floor).. we finished it!

the final pieces were so frustrating to put together.. a piece here and a piece there.. they seem to fit.. but right when you're holding the last one.. you realized that you must have placed some of the pieces on the part that looks like them.. hehehe.. the puzzle was of pooh and his friends in the forest.. so basically.. there were a lot of green!

the longest 13 bus stops

after having our late breakfast.. we got ready to leave and watch a movie.. sadly, we were not able to arrive in time for zorro.. so we just bought tickets for 'sky high'.. hehehe.. it was really a kid's movie.. the effort placed on the effects were not that much.. things that kids would not really care about.. the story was not deep.. just plain family fun.. zero profanity! (which some people find kewl! no need to worry about covering their childrens eyes and ears!)

we met up with some of our officemates after lunch.. to go swimming at laguna park! =D got to practice again.. hehehe.. i do hope i learn.. *cross fingers*

on the way home, we rode the bus.. my pangga and i were feeling all tired and sleepy.. but we need to be alert so as not to miss our stop.. as if concentrating (when you're sleepy too) wasnt hard enough.. this guy rode the bus.. an indian guy.. and i think you've guessed what happened.. yep! grabe! some i can tolerate.. but this one.. na-ah.. i knew that he really smelled that bad when even my pangga wanted to use my vicks inhaler.. hahahaha! he can tolerate the smell better than me.. pero kanina.. sumuko ang pangga ko.. i even told my pangga, that i think my brain is melting.. hahaha! and that my nose is numb from sniffing the methol.. that was the longest 13 bus stops ever!

we're home now.. and im trying to finish my kwento for the day.. =D o yeah.. we're not even half way through the jigsaw puzzle we started two days ago.. =S

server problem and boredom

i know! i know! it's a work thing.. =p

but im sooo bored! i have this tons of reports to automate but the server is going loco.. *sigh*

i wished i brought our puzzles.. mwehehehe.. =p now, THAT would be some quality time.. hahaha!

oh yeah.. forgot to tell you guys.. we bought some jigsaw puzzles yesterday.. just 500 pieces though.. and they're really for kids (i think..) coz the puzzle themes include buzz light year, mickey mouse (and mini and donald and pluto.. basically the whole gang), the different princesses (belle, snow white, cinderella, etc.. etc..) and winnie the pooh (with his gang or is it her.. hahaha!)

but it was a great buy.. 4 for $10! =p

we'll start putting together one of the puzzles tonight.. =D something to look forward to..

ok.. back to being bored! =S

swimming 101

lesson one: flutter kick (now i have a name for what i do in the pool =p). proper breathing.

it was great knowing that i can still learn.. hehehe.. i bought myself a kickboard for practice tomorrow..

the instructor was good.. the lesson not only includes the act of swimming but the laws and theories behind them.. =D after our lesson last night, i was sooo tired i can hardly walk.. it's like i've used every muscle in my body.. well.. i'll get use to it.. eventually.. =p

haha! there's no official lesson tomorrow.. just practice with some of my officemates.. im excited nonetheless! =D

r&y's house warming

we spent the evening yesterday at richard and yanhua's place.. a house warming.. there were a lot of familiar food.. it was great! =)

after dinner, we played cards.. the first game includes using your brain.. (and fast!) the cards will be divided among the two players (in our case, boys vs girls).. each player will place two cards on the table.. but before that , the players will agree on a certain number.. say 24.. the players must come up with an equation that will result to their agreed number.. example.. the numbers on the table are 7, 4, 5, 3.. the equation could be (7-4) * (5+3) = 24 or (4*3) + (7+5) = 24.. the aim was to get the equation first.. the player who loses will get the set of cards on the table.. the one with the least (or none) cards wins! =D

we had quite a laugh! everyone was saying their own solution that you can hardly hear who's really saying the right thing.. =D

the next game was the very famous.. 1, 2, 3, pass! the person whose hand ends up on the top gets a line drawn on his face with a lipstick =p d*mn im goooooood! =p .. yep! the only one with a clean face was me! me! me! =p

lunch and swimming @ suntec

lunch. we had lunch at rice table indonesian restaurant yesterday.. it was a buffet for 13++ each person.. great deal if you ask me.. the cool thing was we didnt have to stand and line up to get our food.. they serve the food on our table and we can just ask them for seconds if we wanted to =D most of the food were spicy.. there were vegies, beef, fish, shrimp, fruits, etc, etc.. sarap!

we had the lunch out because je's boyfriend is going back to london the today.. and.. we wanted to meet him =)

after work we went at suntec to check out the pool.. and to take a short dip as well.. hehehe.. =) at long last ill be taking my long overdue swimming lessons.. on monday my officemate, loi, and i will be taking the trial lessons.. if we like it.. we'll sign up! =D

i was sooo excited to learn that i bought myself a swimsuit, goggles and a cap last monday! =p

aside from the fact that ive been longing to learn how to swim.. swimming will help me get fit (for the wedding..hehehe) and prepare me for our diving experience at el nido.. hehehe.. (calling beng for the details) =p

chili crab ala rivera

my pangga and i decided to try and cook our very own chili crab.. it was a public holiday yesterday.. which gives us a lot of time to prepare.. (or not.. hehe.. we just slept the whole morning..)

here's the recipe..

it was quite easy.. a couple of tears here and there, burning of the face, hands, and eyes.. and we're done!

my pangga and i make a pretty good team.. =) he took care of the crabs (i cant cut them into halves by myself.. plus i was rendered handicapped for most of the cooking time.. huhuhu..).. i made the sauce.. (at least i was still able to make the sauce..) =p

the whole experience was great inspite of my booboos on the side.. we were dancing to the song 'you look wonderful tonight' while waiting for the crab to turn red =)

NOTE TO SELF: do not seed chilis with bare hands! and if, for whatever reason you did, DO NOT touch any part of your body! especially your eyes!
