the moon challenge

i just read this article about google sponsoring an event where groups were to come up with their very own moon rover by 2012. There should be very minimal government involvement and the rover should be able to run for about 500 meters on the surface of the moon while gathering data.

The prize is 20 million. Google agrees that this sum of money is not that much compared to the cost of development. But it wasn't really meant to do so in the first place. It was just an incentive, a catalyst even for brilliant minds with passion about space and exploration to come out and start brainstorming for better ways of data gathering outside our planet.

I sent the article link to my pangga.

And he replied by asking if we can join. =p I said that if we were to win the lottery, we wont be able to afford it. Plus, the passion may be there but there's the skills that we clearly dont have. =p

But wouldnt it be great to be a part of something this big?
