Q&A nightmare
a friend of mine sent me a forwarded message about a filipina who won the ms. world competition after such a terrible display of intellect during the question and answer portion..it was actually suppose to be funny.. but somehow it got me thinking..
if speaking english was the main reason why the contestant cant come up with a decent answer.. why didnt the pageant organizers encouraged them to speak filipino in the first place.. not that i know if they really didnt encourage them.. but come on.. they could even have the judges ask their questions in both english and tagalog so as not to intimidate the contestant..
dont they know that even contestants from other countries have their own interpreters during the Q&A so that they may truly articulate their heartfelt answers.. and not grasp for whatever little english words they know..
but anyway, my point is, even if the girl won (yes, she won apparently) at the local pageant, she doesnt stand a chance on the next level.. just my two cents =p
i havent really watched any of the pageants back home since, uhmmm, i dont know.. how's are they?

I can't believe she won. But in any case, I guess we Filipinos pride ourselves in our ability to speak English well. So, it's expected that contestants at the Bb. Pilipinas pageant are expected to deliver their answers well in English?
But you're absolutely right. She can't pull off a Q and A like that at Miss World. She needs a translator and she should use one. =)
hahaha! i saw that one too! what's annoying with her is she was uber confident (bordering on arrogant) nung una, tapos nung di na nya masagot yung tanong, nagdahilan pa na first time nya. c'mon! =P
i've had my blunders too (said "sawing" instead of "seeing", hahaha!), but i don't think i was THAT annoying. *lol*
jane, the pageants are great here. you should see the miss gay shows. they answer QnA's more intellectually. The beauty pageants however are just that - beauty pageants. Nevermind the brains. Well, it's still entertaining than watching congress news...
i like her. bwahahaha. malay mo manalo? L O L! lagi naman tayo nagpapadala ng magaling magenglish, hindi naman nananalo, baka ito, manalo! LOL!
hehehe dear ang balita.. paolo bediones "whispered" daw to her na pwede magtagalog... pero siguro naunahan ng "kaba"? i dont know so pinanindigan na...
oh and they say that ms. world naman daw is more on "beauty" not the brains. sooo... baka nga pwede syang manalo pa. nyak! =\
