tree marriage
weird huh? well for me at least..
apparently, the marital union of a person with a tree is widespread in india.. it's kind of a proxy marriage..
in one such practice, a bachelor is wed to a tree and then later on the tree is chopped down.. thus giving the guy a widower status and requiring him to marry a widow..

i heard another explanation.. Hindu practice.. to them marrying the third time is bad luck.. so to offset that.. they would marry a tree on that instance and burn it down after.. so they could go on to their fourth marriage.. =)
yikes! so if they happen to marry a real person the 3rd time, they burn her down too and marry the 4th one?!

i wonder if theres engagement period din if you plan to marry a tree... ahehehe :D
